Harwich is one of Suffolk and Essex's most exposed coastal towns, and the chimney stacks on its older properties take a constant hit from estuary winds — we carry out complete chimney rebuilds across the town.
The historic town centre and Ha'penny Pier area contains a dense concentration of Georgian and early Victorian properties with original brick stacks, many of which have deteriorated significantly due to salt air coming off the Stour and Orwell estuaries. Older lime mortar in these stacks can wash out entirely within a decade without maintenance, leaving the masonry unstable. A rebuild using modern materials, properly flaunched and fitted with a cowl where needed, is the right long-term solution for stacks in this condition.
We also work in Dovercourt, where the bay-fronted Victorian terraces along the seafront have chimneys that face direct westerly exposure. If your stack looks out of plumb or has suffered visible mortar loss, call us for a free survey rather than waiting for the next storm to confirm the problem.
